Ivie a Big Addition to Florida's 2013 Class

According to Joey Ivie, he has been a Florida fan from the beginning. On Saturday, Ivie made his decision to become a member of the Gator Nation official. While he was in Gainesville for camp, Dade City defensive tackle Joey Ivie informed the coaches of his decision to commit to the Florida Gators.

"Well I went on a bus tour to see a lot of different colleges and I felt great today going through the camp and getting to see the campus. I grew up a Florida fan and I've always wanted to be a Gator. So, you know, going through the camp and talking to all of the coaches and seeing what I can have in my future just made me feel like it was the right decision," Joey Ivie said.

When Ivie informed the coaches of his decision, their excitement was apparent.

"We were all sitting down in the room, me, Coach Will Muschamp, Coach Bryant Young, Coach Dan Quinn, and Coach Brian White. We talked for like ten minutes and then it kind of got quiet. Then I said ‘Coach, I want to be a Gator,' and he was like ‘You want to be a Gator? Finally. We've been waiting for this.' Then, they welcomed me to the family and gave me hugs and stuff and told me that the Florida Gators just got better," he said.

After his commitment, some of the other players committed to Florida took the time to welcome him to the family.

"I got to talk to some of the other committed players and they welcomed me to the family," he said.

Now that he is committed, Ivie will return to Gainesville in the near future.

"I'm going to come back like two weeks from now," he said.

Recently, Ivie saw his stock rise tremendously. The 6-foot-4, 269-pound defensive tackle gained offers quickly. Although he considered his other options, Ivie's heart was with the Gators.

"I was considering Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Vandy, and a lot of other schools, but I grew up a Florida fan and I just felt like it was the right decision," he said.

The immense amount of interest that he received is not the only indication that Ivie is a great addition to Florida's class. The talented defender had a dominant performance at camp.

"I did pretty good at camp. No one blocked me," he said.
