Sturgis Named to Groza Award Watch List

After being a finalist for the award in 2011 and a semifinalist in 2009, Caleb Sturgis was named on Wednesday to the watch list for the Groza Award, given to the nation's top kicker. The 30-kicker list includes two finalists from the 2011 group and 16 other semifinalists from last season.

Caleb Sturgis went 22-of-26 (85%) on field goals during the 2011 season. He was third in the nation with 22 field goals made, and his 1.83 field goals per game are the most of any returning kicker in the country.

Sturgis connected on all 31 of his PAT attempts and made his first 12 field goals of the season, which is the third longest streak to start a season in Florida history.

As a junior, he was one of two kickers in the FBS to make three field goals of 50-or-more yards and the sixth kicker in Florida history to accomplish the feat. His longest field goal made was 55 yards, the third-longest in the country in 2011.

Sturgis is 46-of-60 on field goal attempts and 96-of-191 on PATs in his career at Florida. He is second all-time in Florida history with 46 made field goals. His five field goals of 50-or-more yards are the most in school history.

The 20 semifinalists for the award will be announced on November 5, and the three finalists will be revealed on November 19. The winner of the award will be announced at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Award Show on December 6.
