Eight Gators Named to Coaches All-SEC Team

One year after Florida didn't have one representative on the preseason Coaches First Team All-SEC team, senior kicker Caleb Sturgis was the team's only player to make the list in 2012. The Gators placed eight on the Coaches All-SEC teams that were released by the league on Thursday.

The Florida defense represented five of eight overall selections.

Defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd, senior linebacker Jon Bostic and junior safety Matt Elam were placed on the second team. Floyd had 46 tackles and 6.5 tackles for a loss while playing the final 11 games of 2011.

Bostic started every game for Florida and led the team with 94 tackles and added 10 tackles for a loss. Elam led the Gators with 11 tackles for a loss, seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Junior defensive lineman Dominique Easley and junior linebacker Jelani Jenkins were both picked to the third team. Easley made 37 tackles and was fifth on the team with 7.5 tackles for a loss before tearing his ACL against Florida State. Jenkins was third on the team with 75 tackles and six pass breakups.

Caleb Sturgis was a first team selection after being a finalist for the Groza award last season. He went 22-of-26 on field goals last season, including a long of 55 yards.

Andre Debose was named the second team return specialist after recording three 50-plus yard kick returns, including a 99-yard return for a touchdown against Ohio State in the Gator Bowl last season.

Offensive tackle Xavier Nixon, a third team selection, was Florida's only offensive player selected for any spot on the team. He played in nine games last season.
