Gators in the NFL: Week One

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was the only former Florida player that caught a touchdown during week one of the NFL season, but there were plenty of ex-Gators that saw action and made an impact on an NFL roster over the weekend.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin started for the Minnesota Vikings and made six receptions for 84 yards. Harvin also added five rushes for 20 yards in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New England Patriots have four former Gators on their roster. Jermaine Cunningham had three tackles while Brandon Spikes started at linebacker and made one tackle. Aaron Hernandez made six receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. He also recorded a five-yard rush. Jeff Demps was placed on injured reserve.

Reggie Nelson started at free safety for the Cincinnati Bengals and led the team with eight tackles. Carlos Dunlap was inactive during week one for the Bengals.

Major Wright started at strong safety and tied for the most tackles on the team with seven, including six solo tackles.

The Gators were well represented on the offensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Marcus Gilbert started at right tackle, Maurkice Pouncey started at center and Max Starks started at left tackle. Chris Rainey added two rushes for five yards and a reception for minus one yard.

Ahmad Black started at free safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and made one interception.

Janoris Jenkins recorded four total tackles for the St. Louis Rams and intercepted Matt Stafford on the first drive of the game.

Joe Haden started at cornerback for the Cleveland Browns and had six tackles, including five solo tackles. Haden will now serve a four-game suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing substances.

David Nelson started for the Buffalo Bills and made two receptions for 31 yards. Nelson tore his ACL in the game and will miss the rest of the season.

Ray McDonald had four tackles, including three solo tackles, for the San Francisco 49ers in their win over the Green Bay Packers.

Louis Murphy started at wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers and notched three receptions for 63 yards from his former college teammate Cam Newton.

Will Hill made the New York Giants roster and made one tackle in Wednesday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants placed Justin Trattou on injured reserve.

Tim Tebow started at tight end for the New York Jets and rushed five times for 11 yards. Chas Henry started as the punter for the Philadelphia Eagles and hit six punts for 330 yards.

Jeremy Mincey started at defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and made three tackles.

Deonte Thompson earned kickoff returner duties for the Baltimore Ravens, returning four kickoffs for 88 yards. Thompson added one catch for 25 yards.

Former Gators that played but didn't record a stat: Washington Redskins offensive lineman Maurice Hurt, Atlanta Falcons linebacker Mike Peterson, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Brandon Siler, Oakland Raiders offensive lineman Cooper Carlisle.
