Gators in the NFL: Week Two

There were 23 former Florida football players that saw action in the NFL during week two and 12 of them were starters. David Nelson tore his ACL in week one and will miss the season, and Aaron Hernandez sprained his ankle early in week two, taking out two of the top former Gators in the NFL.

Percy Harvin made the biggest impact for the Minnesota Vikings. He started at receiver and caught 12 passes for 104 yards while being targeted 13 times by Christian Ponder. He added two rushes for 13 yards and two kickoff returns for 78 yards, including a long of 50.

Three former Gators played for the New England Patriots on Sunday. Aaron Hernandez started at tight end before leaving the game with a right ankle injury, which is being reported as a high ankle sprain that will keep him out 4-6 weeks. Brandon Spikes started at linebacker and recorded seven tackles, forced a fumble and had two hits on the quarterback. Jermaine Cunningham played at linebacker and made one tackle.

Major Wright started at strong safety for the Chicago Bears and had six tackles, including one tackle for a loss.

Reggie Nelson stated at free safety for the Cincinnati Bengals and make six tackles, including four solo tackles.

Jeremy Mincey started at defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and recorded five solo tackles, including one for a loss and one deflection.

Ray McDonald started at defensive tackle as the San Francisco 49ers moved to 2-0. McDonald had two tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss and one hit on the quarterback.

Deonte Thompson continued to start at kick returner for the Baltimore Ravens and had three for 100 yards, including a long of 49 yards.

Tim Tebow had one rush for 22 yards while getting time at quarterback for the New York Jets.

Brandon Siler saw action on offense and had one special teams tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Will Hill saw action at safety and made one tackle on special teams in a win for the New York Giants.

Chas Henry punted five times for 196 yards, an average of 39.2, with a long of 56 yards as the Eagles moved to 2-0 on the year.

Ahmad Black saw action at safety and made one tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mike Pouncey started at center for the Miami Dolphins. The Pittsburgh Steelers had three former Gators start on their offensive line—Marcus Gilbert at right tackle, Maurkice Pouncey at center and Max Starks at left tackle.

Chris Rainey added two rushes for three yards and one reception for five yards with the Steelers. He also had one punt return for 13 yards.

Saw action but no stats: linebacker Mike Peterson (Atlanta Falcons), wide receiver Louis Murphy (Carolina Panthers), offensive guard Cooper Carlisle (Oakland Raiders), offensive guard Maurice Hurt (Washington Redskins).
