The practice on Monday isn't expected to be as long as the ones later in the week, so the Florida coaches decided to take their time with Driskel and not risk re-injury to his ankle. The team will only be in helmets during Monday's practice as they return to the field and start preparing for Florida State.
The focus of the week will be his ankle. The Gators will be smart with it and watch the injury, but Muschamp expects him to be on the field Saturday when they travel to Tallahassee. The only question is whether or not he will start. That decision won't be made until later in the week.
"We're going to see how the week goes," Muschamp said. "I don't know. I know right now, based on yesterday, that he will play in the game. How much he's going to play, whether he's going to start, I don't know that right now. I'll know more as the week goes.
"We're not going to practice him today, but he could practice today. We're going to take one more day off of it and get on the practice field tomorrow."?
Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett started and threw for 154 yards against Jacksonville State. Muschamp was clear after the game that the playcalling was conservative to avoid a turnover that would let the Gamecocks back in the game.
Muschamp was asked if Driskel would start if he was healthy, and the head coach remained non-committal.
"I'm not going to get into playing all the 'if' game," Muschamp said. "We're going to see what it is Tuesday, and we're going to move from there.
