Christy, Sturgis named award finalists

Both Florida specialists on the finalists for the best player at their positions. Punter Kyle Christy and kicker Caleb Sturgis were named to the final list of three for the Ray Guy and Lou Grozas Award, respectively, on Monday afternoon. The winners will be announced on December 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards.

Caleb Sturgis is a finalist for the Lou Groza award during the second-consecutive season. He was also a semifinalist during the 2009 season. Sturgis has hit 20-of-24 field goals this season and made 28-of-29 extra point attempts.

Sturgis is one field goal shy of tying the career record for field goals made at Florida, currently held by Jeff Chandler from 1997-2001. He is the third player in Florida history to score over 300 points, joining Chandler (368) and Tim Tebow (342).

In his career, Sturgis has hit 66-of-84 field goal attempts and 124-of-130 field goals. Sturgis holds the school record with seven field goal from 50+ yards.

Kyle Christy has experienced his breakout season this year. Through ten games this year, he is fourth in the nation and the best in the SEC with an average of 46.3 yards per punt.

Against South Carolina this season, Christy set the school record for a single game with an average of 54.3 yards per punt. He also has a long punt of 62 yards this season and three punts of at least 60 yards.
