Brandon Jenkins' Going Pro

Despite having one year of eligibility left, Florida State defensive end Brandon Jenkins has decided to make the jump to the NFL.

The Florida High grad and former All-American has not played since the first game of the season where he suffered a devastating foot injury.

Jenkins is very thankful for his time at FSU, but after thinking it over time and time again for the last couple months, he has decided it's time.

"I think it's time," Jenkins told reporters Monday night. "It's been great; I love FSU and everybody here. I bleed garnet and gold. It's been a really tough decision, but I will enter the NFL draft."

This wasn't the first time Jenkins has pondered leaving school early for the NFL - last year he went back and forth on the decision for weeks before ultimately deciding to return for his senior year.

Then, first game in his senior year, Jenkins suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in his foot. Although it has been very tough for him to handle, he doesn't regret the decision to come back one bit.

"You can never look back and regret things," Jenkins said. "I enjoyed playing in the spring. I enjoyed playing with Bjoern (Werner) and Tank (Carradine). I don't regret a thing."

It can be a lengthy recovery process up to six months, and in some cases even longer. But Jenkins seems to be ahead of schedule and is looking forward to getting the boot off on Nov. 29.

From there he will continue to rehab and do everything he can to be healthy enough for the NFL Combine in February.

Jenkins will leave FSU with 22 1/2 sacks and 37 1/2 tackles for a loss, which are both 8th in school history.

It's no secret that Jenkins is a local product and has been a lifelong FSU fan which has made the decision that much tougher.

"This was one of the most emotional times of my life," Jenkins said. "I gave him a hug. He gave me words. He cares about me as an individual, not just as a football player, and he supported my decision."

"Right now I'm just ready to win an ACC Championship, rehab more, and watch us beat the Gators."
