Florida's newest football staff hire will arrive in Gainesville on Thursday and get to work. It is a big recruiting weekend as the Gators will host some prime time prospects for their awards banquet and getting a jump start on that will be very important for Joker Phillips as the gators look to improve the talent among the receiver unit on the team.
is known as a really good recruiter and he will take his talents to the Palm Beach area for most of his time on the recruiting trail. The area is the same that former receiver coach Aubrey Hill
covered and is certainly a fertile recruiting ground in terms of producing elite high school skill player talent.
Phillips will likely start in the office on Thursday and prepare for the busy weekend of visitors before setting out on the road on Monday hitting his receiver prospects and also his Palm Beach area as best he can.
Phillips has 17 years of coaching the wide receiver position to his name before he became the offensive coordinator and then head coach at Kentucky. 12 of those years as a receiver coach he spent in the SEC at either Kentucky or South Carolina, so he is no stranger to getting out on the recruiting trail and in the south.
With his strength in recruiting look for Phillips to focus in on some of the great receiver prospects out there that aren't already committed to Florida and try and reel in another one to a recruiting class that is already bound to be top five nationally.
With his relationship with offensive coordinator Brent Pease, also look for Phillips to make an immediate and possibly substantial with the play of the receivers on the field. Some would say the receivers played to their potential and maybe greater this year. Expect Phillips to take that to another level.
