Mississippi Top Offensive Players

The Mississippi backfield stole the show during Tuesday's practices. To get a look at the top five players read below.

Top 5 Offensive Players (alphabetical order)

Scott Austin - (WR, Biloxi, MS) - The 3-Star receiver gives you height (6' 3") and a long wing span. He excels at going up and catching the ball at his highest point. Austin runs good routes and looks very polished. The Biloxi native also runs a good deep ball and uses his jumping ability to go up and get the ball

Derrick Jones (WR, Eupora, MS) - The two wide outs for Mississippi are a perfect compliment for the Magnolia squad as they both are tall, rangy, and can go up and get the ball. Derrick is more than a possession receiver as he possesses the best straight ahead speed out of all of the wideouts.

Deon Mix (OL, South Panola, MS) - Deon has improved leaps and bounds this year as he fought mono for the first half of the season. Deon has had trouble with his bend in year's past but has worked on his flexibility as of late. He gets a good push off of the line of scrimmage and opens up the most holes amongst the Mississippi offensive linemen. The ceiling has always been high for the South Panola lineman and it looks like the light is beginning to be turned on. Mix still has a ways to go but he is getting there day by day and has the tools to be a really good SEC lineman one day.

Kailo Moore

Kailo Moore (RB, West Bolivar, MS) - The 4-Star tailback out of Rosedale simply has a gear that no one else on the offensive or defensive side of the ball possesses. He can hit it outside and take the corner on you, or he will hit it inside and make one cut and go north and south.

We were interested to see what Moore would look like mixed in with the elite prospects in Mississippi. Would his speed hold up against the best? We were surprised that he looks even faster amongst the best than he does playing in 2A ball. Moore has improved on his lateral movement and his cuts and is becoming more of a complete back.

Ashton Shumpert (RB, Itawamba AHS, MS) - The 6' 2", 215-pound back gives Mississippi someone who can run inside for the tough yards. Ashton also catches the ball very well in the backfield which allows the offense to spread the perimeter on the swing passes.

Some believe that Shumpert is destined for the defensive side of the ball on the next level but what makes the 4-Star athlete so special is that he is equally effective on either side of the ball. Do not look for him to be involved on defense this week.
