With all of Michigan football's commitments falling under the same guidelines for taking visits and what the repercussions might be, 2013 Detroit Cass Tech offensive lineman David Dawson had some explaining to do to the rest of the class of 2013 commits when he and the Wolverines parted ways this fall. When the opportunity arose for Dawson to possibly end up back in the fold with Michigan, Dawson took it upon himself to reach out to every single one of them.
"I go to school with one of the commits, Jourdan Lewis and I talk a lot to Shane, Khalid, Logan, Taco, Mike," said Dawson. "A lot of those guys. Even when they reoffered me I sent out a group message asking them what would they think if I recommitted and everybody sent back positive things. I even talked to Kyle Bosch, Chris Fox, Poggi, Kugler --- I talked to most of the commits out there they just said they'd welcome me back with open arms."
While Dawson isn't officially being welcomed back into the class just yet, two visits could ultimately prevent that from happening. Dawson will head to Alabama on January 11th and Ohio State on January 18th. Of Ohio State, Dawson says he has quite a few relationships down in Columbus.
"I have a great relationship with my position coach, Coach Warner, Coach Combs at defensive back, he's kind of crazy but it's a good crazy," said Dawson. "I talked to Coach Meyer a few times and he's a great person. I know a lot of the commits from previous camps that we've all been to. I know Gareon Conley that just recently committed to Ohio State."
As far as when a decision might come for Dawson, he's still unsure of when exactly things will go down but will have plenty of long discussions to ensure this time nothing changes before signing day.
"It'll probably come sometime around January 20th if not signing day," said Dawson. "I'm just going to try to take my time, talk to my family and coaches and just see where they think I should go and weigh my decision."
