Florida Lineman Talks Missouri Offer

Recruiting season for 2013 is winding down and only has a few weeks to go until signing day, but the Missouri Tigers have been busy beating the bushes for football prospects to add. ShowMeMizzou.com has the latest on a recent Florida offer.

As National Signing Day approaches, the Missouri Tigers have been busy putting the finishing touches on their 2013 recruiting class.  Last week, we learned that 2013 DE prospect Eric Mayes  6'5"  255  Sarasota (FL) Booker had received a Missouri offer.  This week, Mayes took time to visit with ShowMeMizzou.com, and he updated us on his recruitment.

"I received an offer from Missouri last week,"  said Mayes.   "Coach (Brian) Jones was here, and he told me that they would like to have me at Missouri.   He told me that the whole coaching staff watched my film, and that they all liked me, and that they'd like to see me at Missouri, so he offered me."

Mayes told me that he has received 30 scholarship offers, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Purdue, South Florida, and West Virginia, among others, in addition to Missouri.

Earlier this fall, Mayes had taken a couple of official visits, so he can take up to three more officials, and it looks like he may do just that.   This weekend (1-18-13), he's taking an official visit to nearby South Florida.

"That's one of my top choices, too, along with Missouri,"  explained Mayes, citing South Florida and Missouri as his current favorites.

Mayes is a basketball player who just started playing football as a junior.

"I never been to a combine, or ran a forty, or anything like that,"  explained Mayes, who said that he's already qualified for college.

Mayes included Mississippi State as another school that, like Missouri, offered him last week.  He included Mississippi State among his favorites, along with Missouri and USF, and he said that he wants to visit Mississippi State and Missouri before signing day.

He said that playing in the SEC appeals to him.  Then he described what he's looking for in a college.

"Going away from home really doesn't affect me,"  explained Mayes.  "If I like the campus and the environment, then I'll consider it home.  I'm looking for a nice environment, and a brotherhood-type connection.  I want the coaching staff to be there all four years."

ShowMeMizzou.com follow-up on Eric Mayes recruitment later, including visit dates for his final visits.
