Muschamp updates roster, Dunker and injuries

The Florida roster continues to shrink. Head coach Will Muschamp announced on Friday afternoon that three players would leave the team and open up scholarships. The timeframe of a potential return for redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jessamen Dunker is also in doubt after he was charged with grand theft on Wednesday. Muschamp updated the team roster at a Friday afternoon press conference.

The roster lost three players that were all announced by Muschamp. Defensive lineman Kedric Johnson and wide receiver Stephen Alli will both graduate from Florida and "move on." Muschamp said there's a chance Johnson may play somewhere else next fall, but that isn't set in stone.

Alli is going to go to graduate school. That could happen at Florida, and if it does, Alli could still help the program ‘in operations or in the weight room.' Neither of them will play for the Gators in 2013.

Offensive lineman Tommy Jordan has applied for a medical exemption at Florida because of a shoulder injury. The shoulder was a problem and rehab wasn't enough to correct the issue.

"Obviously, playing offensive line in the SEC isn't great for a bad shoulder," Will Muschamp said.

DUNKER UPDATE: Florida offensive lineman Jessamen Dunker was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle on Wednesday afternoon. He received a redshirt during the 2012 season and was expected to compete for a starting position during the 2013 season.

Dunker was pulled over on a scooter for following too close to a truck, and the cop realized that he was driving a scooter that was reported stolen. Besides the third-degree felony for grand theft auto, Dunker also was charged with driving with a suspended license, which is a misdemeanor.

"I met with Jessamen Dunker (Friday) morning, and I suspended him from all team activities until we get more information," Muschamp said. "I have been on the road (recruiting). I just met face-to-face with him this morning for the first time for about 15 minutes. Once we get a little more information, we'll move forward, but he's suspended from the team at this time. We'll address that further when I know more."

INJURY REPORT: Offensive lineman Jon Halapio had his knee scoped this offseason while offensive lineman Chaz Green and linebacker Neiron Ball both had their ankle scoped. The expectation is that all three players will get on the field at some point in spring practice, but that isn't settled yet.

"I don't know when that will happen, how much contact there will be," Muschamp said. "I'll know more when we move forward."

Punter Kyle Christy had a procedure to "tie his shoulder tighter." He had the injury going into the season, but it was a simple procedure to correct the pain.

"He punted pretty well with it, I don't know why we needed to have surgery but they felt like he needed it," Muschamp joked.

Florida wide receiver Solomon Patton broke his arm against Georgia and missed the remainder of the season. He's on track to be cleared for non-contact during spring practice.

"Solomon Patton's doing really well," Muschamp said. "I don't think he will be in any contact, but he's doing really well."
