Florida LB has Kentucky on top

James Hearns and Florida recently parted ways and the linebacker out of the Sunshine State now has a new leader.

"After visiting Kentucky, they are my leader," James Hearns told Scout Sunday afternoon. "I just got along with the staff very well, I bonded with the other recruits, and I just liked it there. I was around people that have the same goal as me, that is to win football games."

Kentucky has a connection with Hearns because Mark Stoops' roots at Florida State. That could play off for the Wildcats in the end.

"I have know Coach Stoops for a while and he was recruiting me at FSU. He told me this weekend that he recruited me for FSU for a reason and now he wants me to be their inside linebacker at Kentucky.

"The coaches told me I could play early there, that I could be a big part of that defense, and I was liking what they were telling me. They want to turn the program around and I like what Coach Stoops is trying to do. I have known him for a little while and I like him."

The 6-foot-3, 230 pound linebacker out of Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln also liked the support the UK fans showed while he was there.

That really stood out to him.

"Kentucky has not had too much success in football, but they still have great support. They really have a lot of fans there and I think that is great. The atmosphere was great, I really liked the support there."

Now that Kentucky leads, who will the Wildcats have to hold off to sign Hearns?

"I have them on top, then Auburn would be next," he said. "I am still looking at some other schools like Houston, South Florida, Florida State, and Louisville too."

Hearns will take an official visit next weekend, but he is not sure to who yet. He also does not know when he will make his decision or sign with a school.

"I am not sure when I will commit yet. I may wait until after signing day, but I have to talk to my coach. I have only taken official visits to Auburn and Kentucky, so I may need a little more time."
