McClendon has a top five

Charlotte (N.C.) West Mecklenburg quarterback Jalan McClendon is one of the top juniors in North Carolina. McClendon is hearing from numerous schools and has an early top five.

Over the past few months, Jalan McClendon's recruitment has continued to gain momentum. Last Thursday, East Carolina became the fifth school to offer McClendon.

Along with the Pirates, he also has scholarship offers from North Carolina, South Carolina State, UNC-Charlotte, and Wake Forest.

Recently, coaches from Clemson, Georgia, and LSU have all been by to check on the talented signal-caller. Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Florida State are also recruiting the 2014 quarterback.

"All the schools that have offered me are recruiting me pretty hard," said the 6-foot-5, 195-pound McClendon. "I've been hearing from Clemson, Virginia, and North Carolina the most, though."

Who could be the next to offer McClendon?

"I think Clemson or Virginia could be the next to offer," he said. "I'm supposed to go visit both schools soon."

The next several months will be a busy time for McClendon.

"I've been invited to junior days at Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina, ECU, Virginia, South Carolina, and LSU I think," McClendon said. "I'll probably be able to get to Clemson, ECU, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I'm pretty sure I will go to those. I'm also going to probably go those same schools for spring practice."

As for the summer, McClendon plans to attend camps Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida State and Clemson.

Although he has heard from numerous schools, five are out in front at this time.

"Right now, I would say Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina, ECU, and Georgia are my top five schools – in no particular order," McClendon said. "Virginia and Wake Forest are right there, too."

McClendon is in no hurry to make a decision.

"At some point, I want to narrow it down to five schools," he said. "I think I'll make my decision on Signing Day."
