5-Star DL Montravius Adams Picks Auburn

Five-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams made his decision on ESPNU Wednesday morning.

Vienna, Ga.—The Auburn Tigers were looking for a big finish to the 2013 recruiting class and got just that as five-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams committed to Gus Malzahn's program Wednesday on ESPNU.

Rated the number three defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com, Adams is a huge get for the Tigers at a position of need in this class and joins junior college signee Ben Bradley up front in this class for Auburn.

"I really like the coaches and the players," Adams said. "We got along real good on my visit. I just like it there."

Adams said that he almost didn't consider Auburn after the coaching staff change, but decided to give the Tigers a second chance. His relationship with new Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner improved his comfort level with Gus Malzahn's staff.

Montravius Adams

Adams becomes the first five-star defensive tackle to commit to the Auburn Tigers since Bart Eddins in 2006. At that time Eddins was rated the number seven defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com. With a number three ranking in the country he's also the highest rated defensive tackle for Auburn since Scout.com's rankings started in 2002.

As someone who has seen Adams play since early in his high school career, Scout.com's Chad Simmons had this to say about the massive defensive tackle.

"Adams has a very good first step off the ball and he shows explosion consistently when you see him in action. He is still raw when it comes to technique. He can work on his pad level and his hand placement, but overall, he is about as impressive as they come on the defensive line. He has the size, athleticism, and motor that you would want to coach at a top program."

As a senior at Dooly County in 2012 Adams had a monster year for any defender, but especially for a defensive lineman. Finishing with 127 total tackles, Adams also made 31 tackles for a loss and added seven and a half sacks. As a junior the big lineman had 84 tackles with an incredible 45 of those coming for a loss. He also added sacks.
