Harris Feels the Love at MSU

Grand Rapids Christian (Mich.) junior wide receiver Drake Harris talks about his visit to Michigan State, the school he is currently committed to.

During the midst of their basketball team's big win over rival Michigan on Tuesday night, the student section managed to turn their attention to football recruiting, breaking into a "we want Drake Harris" chant.

Harris, currently committed to the Spartans and one of the top wide receivers in the entire country, recently stated that his desire to play just football and not basketball as well, would be the catalyst for looking at other schools. Thus, he was a welcome sight in East Lansing for Spartan faithful.

"It was sweet," he said of hearing the student section's cheers. "It just showed the fan support that I will get if I went there and how they care about me. All I could do was smile."

No stranger to MSU or the Breslin Center, Harris says there was still something different about last night's atmosphere. In particular, the decibel level.

"It was awesome," he said. "I've never been to a game there where it's been that loud. I sat with some of the players on the football team and had a great time with them and also some of the recruits. It was really fun."

He also had a chance to speak with both head coaches, Mark Dantonio and Tom Izzo, as both have been involved in his recruiting process.

"I sat next to Coach Dantonio at the game and he was just talking about the offense and how it fits me well and how the student body there is great and how they are just a family there. Then after the game, Coach Izzo, me and my dad sat up in his office and talked for about a half hour just about life. It was great."

As for next visits, Harris currently has two planned.

"February 24th, I think I'll be at Ohio State for the game and then March 22nd, I'll be down at Florida for the weekend."
