Ole Miss continued its hot streak on Friday, adding its fifth commitment to the 2014 recruiting class in Southaven, Miss., offensive lineman Tyler Putman.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Putman is the second commitment for the Rebels in three days, following Oxford, Miss., running back D.K. Buford, who committed to Hugh Freeze and staff on Wednesday.

Ole Miss signed a top-10 class for 2013 on National Signing Day two weeks ago. Putman and Buford join wide receiver Ronald Walker, safety C.J. Hampton and punter Will Gleeson as early commitments for 2014.

"I just like what they've done with the program," Putman said. "(Ole Miss offensive line) Coach (Matt) Luke was on me heavy with the recruiting and stuff. I'm solid. I like Coach Freeze. He's a good coach. He makes a big deal about family and stuff."

Putman said Mississippi State, Arkansas, Auburn, Notre Dame and Louisiana-Monroe were among the other schools to show interest. Mississippi State, like Ole Miss, offered a scholarship.

However, it was the Rebels who won out. Ole Miss finished 7-6 last season, including a blowout win over Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl in January.

"Just to win and stay a family," Putman said, when asked of his expectations for Ole Miss next season. "Hopefully, they'll be competing in Atlanta next year."

Putman stars in both football and basketball for DeSoto Central High School.

He is currently rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL in a basketball game. He said he's "three or four weeks" into rehab, with hopes of returning for the Jaguars' season-opening game in August.

"Right now, I'm focusing on getting my knee better," he said. "I'm working on getting my upper-body strength up, so I can get stronger. I've been doing good in the rehab. I'm feeling confident I can make it (to the opener). But I don't want to rush it too much in case it gets hurt again. I want to come back for the opener, but if I can't, I want to at least make it to play in the conference games."
