His first verbal offer came from SMU as a freshman at Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne, so, now a student-athlete at Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, Malik Cyphers is no stranger to the recruiting process.

The five-foot-ten, 175-pound defensive back took unofficial visits to Boise State and Georgia Tech during his junior season and is hearing from more programs this off-season.

"Miami and Alabama seem interested," he said. "They haven't officially offered but they're in the picture."

In hopes of gaining those offers along with others, Cyphers is doing all he can to prepare himself for his senior year and beyond.

"I'm just working out with the team, doing 7-on-7 with the 1925 All-Stars and running track," he said of his off-season plans.

While his offer list may not be long now, Cyphers knows what he's looking for once they start rolling in.

"The number one thing is the education and what I want to get my degree in," he said. "And secondly is the school that will fit me best as an athlete and where I want to spend the next four years."
