Orlando NFTC Recruiting News, Part Two

Here are a handful of recruiting updates on some of the prospects from the Orlando Nike Football Training Camp.

For Zack Darlington he's just trying to get his stroke back. This three-star quarterback prospect from Apopka had off-season surgery on a broken bone in his wrist on his throwing hand. Amazingly, he sustained the injury during the latter part of his junior regular season. All he did was lead the Blue Darters through the playoffs and to a state title in 2012.

For the first time since his surgery he threw this past week on Wednesday and Thursday. Darlington felt good enough to compete in Saturday's Nike Football Training Camp in Orlando.

"That wasn't too bad," Darlington said. "I had to knock a little rust off. I think I threw better as the day went on. I just can't flick it right now like I want."

It will all come back to the 6-foot-2 and 200-pounder in time. The plan for Darlington is simple, be ready for the May Evaluation process and spring football. That's when all the college recruiters will come through Apopka to check on this three-star signal caller.

"We just want to get him ready and we will see what happens," said his father and Apopka head coach Rick Darlington. "He just started throwing this past week so he wanted to come out here and see what he could do and to compete."

The injury hasn't slowed down the colleges and their offers. Last week Nebraska offered him while Ole Miss did the week before. Virginia Tech, Boston College, North Carolina State, Arizona, Minnesota and West Virginia all offered him since the season ended.

Meanwhile, Darlington and his father hope to get out soon and check out some schools.

"We will definitely get out to visit Nebraska," said his father. "Virginia Tech, NC State and Ole Miss are other strong possibilities to go see sometime this spring."

Then you have to consider the new offers that will likely come between now and the beginning of June.

"I know Ohio State really wants Deshaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga.)," said his father. "But they know he will be tough to flip [from Clemson]. So they are considering three other quarterbacks right now and he's one of them. Auburn is another school that is showing a lot of interest."

Harrell at 25
Tampa (Fla.) Catholic two-way star T.J. Harrell has quietly picked up over two dozen scholarship offers. He plays outside linebacker and running back from the TC but appears to be a safety, at least at this point, right now.

"Everyone thinks I am a running back or linebacker but I think I will play safety in college," said the 6-foot-0 and 180-pounder.

UCLA was actually the first big program that offered Harrell. Since the Bruins offers teams like Boise State, Florida, Florida State, South Florida, UCF, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Louisville, Mississippi State, West Virginia and others have also offered him.

"About the only team that hasn't offered me that I am kind of waiting on is Miami," Harrell said. "I wouldn't mind getting one from Virginia either. I want to get out this spring [or summer] and see teams like Louisville, FSU, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and West Virginia. Right now I am wide open."

Litton Update
Tampa Wharton quarterback Chase Litton has a chance to have a very big spring. He has the size (6-6/190), the arm and talent to earn a bunch of new scholarship offers. According to Litton, he currently holds offers from LSU, USF and Western Michigan.

"That's it for now," Litton said before the Orlando Nike Football Training Camp. "I was supposed to visit Florida today but I am here instead. I like Georgia and want to check them out. I am talking with Florida State a lot. And I know I am going to see Alabama this summer."

Rhaheed Has Some Big Offers
Sharieff Rhaheed (Ft. Pierce, Fla./Central) is a good linebacker from the Sunshine State in the 2014 class. In fact, he has some impressive scholarship offers.

"Right now teams like Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, UCF, South Florida, N.C. State and Penn State have offered me," Rhaheed said. "UMass was my first offer and N.C. State was my most recent."

Rhaheed, 6-foot-4 and 217-pounds, says he's open and wants to see a bunch of schools.

"I am wide open right now," Rhaheed said. "I have been to Florida and USF. I want to check out all the schools. I want to get out there and see what I can."

Preston With Seven Offers
Xavier Preston is a linebacker prospect from Jensen Beach (Fla.) High School. This defensive standout in the 2014 class was one of the linebacker standouts at the Nike Football Training Camp in Orlando.

"Right now I have seven offers," Preston said. "Louisville, South Florida, UCF, Rutgers, Illinois, Arkansas State and Memphis have offered. I am also getting interest from teams like Tennessee, Miami and Florida."

Preston, 6-foot2 and 218-pounds, has already had a chance to see a few schools.

"I have been to Miami a few times," Preston said. "I have also been to USF and was at UCF last Wednesday."

'15 WR Still With One Offer
Keith Gavin is a big and talented wide receiver prospect from Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla High School in the 2016 class. He's already 6-foot-3 and 211-pounds. He participated in Saturday's Orlando Nike Football Training Camp and showcased his skills. He's a physical wideout with strong hands.

Clemson was the first school that offered him. That came last fall. At this time, the Tigers are his lone offer.

"That's it right now," Gavin said. "This past fall I took a visit to Florida and saw a game. They are recruiting me and so is Vanderbilt. My dream school is Florida State."

CB Emerging from Mount Dora
Cornerback Jefferson Vea (Mount Dora, Fla.) currently has two scholarship offers from Memphis and Southern Miss. He's also being recruited by Kentucky and Tulane at this point. He's 6-foot-0 and 175-pounds.

Sleeper in Plant City
Another prospect flying under the radar right now is Plant City defensive back Jy'Quis Thomas. Thomas, 6-foot-1 and 184-pounds, is hearing from teams like Florida, Boise State, Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Michigan State, Louisville and South Carolina. He doesn't have any offers yet.
