Dawkins Eager for Spring

The Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian quarterback, Brandon Dawkins, is eager to throw for schools in spring...

Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian quarterback Brandon Dawkins (6-4, 205), is still sitting on a pair of offers, from Notre Dame and Utah.

But the four-star knows several schools have plans to stop by and watch him throw this spring, and potentially throw their hat into the ring.

"Every school that I've come in contact with said they want to see me live, whether that's to come watch me throw on my campus, or have me come to camp with them," said Dawkins. "Every year, almost every school usually comes out. Since I've been here, we've always had schools come by here to see our guys so I don't think it will be any different."

Already, Dawkins said he expected Alabama, Washington, USC and other Pac-12 schools to come by, plus Notre Dame and Utah.

"Coach (Doug) Nussmeier from Alabama said he's definitely coming out and Washington's Coach Tui (Marques Tuiasosopo) said he'll be back, he came by to see me in January. And then a bunch of coaches from Notre Dame said they would be coming by and Coach (Brian) Johnson from Utah is coming. I think USC and UCLA will be too."

Dawkins visited USC recently and had a good chat with quarterbacks coach Clay Helton.

"I've talked to Coach Helton a lot, and made it to USC's Junior Day and practice and he said don't worry about the offer yet, that they take time with it," said Dawkins. "They've seen me throw multiple times and he liked how I made a progression from my sophomore season to my junior season."

The Irish and Utes, though, stand out to Dawkins.

"I keep in touch with my two offers, Notre Dame and Utah," said Dawkins. "I talk to Coach Johnson every other week and I talk to Notre Dame coaches all the time."

UCLA will have Dawkins at their camp this summer, a school that has signed a number of Oaks players over the years, and USC will also have Dawkins camp there.

"I'll go to the two L.A. schools, UCLA and USC, for their camps, because I can get there easy," said Dawkins.

And Arizona State is also a school that Dawkins is interested in, another school that has a couple of Oaks players on the roster.

"Arizona State hasn't gotten a quarterback in the last two classes, so they're definitely looking for one and I'm interested in them," said Dawkins.

Dawkins went out to Alabama for their Junior Day last month.

"I loved it there," said Dawkins. "Even with winning three of the last four national championships, they have all the top of the line gear and facilities, and added more square feet to their already ginormous facilities. They're really interested in me and I talk with Coach Nuss all the time."

Dawkins is using the offseason to continue to grow as a quarterback.

"There are some obvious thing for me to work on, my footwork mostly and just getting better at making reads and seeing what the defense is running," said Dawkins. "I'm working primarily on making reads in coverage and improving my footwork."
