Dunker to Transfer

The numbers on the offensive line continue to dwindle for the Florida Gators as red-shirt freshman guard Jessamen Dunker met with head coach Will Muschamp on Tuesday and told the head man he wanted to transfer. The two decided it was best for him and so his new journey begins while the Gators continue to worry about depth along the line.

Jessamen Dunker came to Florida as a highly regarded offensive guard from Boynton Beach, FL. The Under-Armour All-American didn't play in his first year on campus, but was expected to fight for a position in his second year.

Dunker became entangled in the law when he was found in possession of a motor scooter that was stolen. He claims to have purchased the scooter, but the legal issues on the mater continue. He has been absent from all football activities and the team ever since.

Muschamp met with the media on Wednesday to talk about his program and made the announcement at the beginning of the talk. Supportive of his position in the matter, Muschamp said. He's got some pretty well-documented off the field issues and he needs a fresh start."

The Gators had to alter their plans for the end-of-spring scrimmage because of lack of depth at some positions and the offensive line was one of them. For most of the spring Florida had six healthy offensive linemen they could use. The dismissal of Dunker won't help but Florida will get some back from injury.

As an inside player, this may hurt a year from now more than now. Seniors Jonotthan Harrison, Jon Halapio, and Kyle Koehne all return inside and will either start or provide immediate depth, but they are seniors and will play their last6 season in 2013.

Transfer Max Garcia is a junior and is expected to start at one spot on the line, while junior Ian Silberman missed the entire spring and hasn't played a lot in his career so far at Florida. Sophomores Trip Thurman and transfer Tyler Moore could also play inside but have mainly played tackle in game or practice time in Gainesville. Junior Chaz Green is also a possibility but he has played tackle exclusively at UF.

Center Cameron Dillard is the only true inside lineman in the 2013 recruiting class, but junior college transfer Trenton Brown and freshman-to-be Octavius Jackson could also be possibilities.

We will have more on the Dunker situation soon.
