Loreauville 2015 WR Rhashid Bonnette goes for the gold in the 100 meters this afternoon at the Class 2A outdoor state track and field meet...
The state track and field championships got started yesterday with non-football playing schools (Class B and C) taking the stage. This afternoon, beginning at 1:30 P.M., Class 1A and 2A get underway. John Curtis Christian's Duke Riley, an LSU LB signee, qualified in the 110-meter hurdles and the discus. Riley is also expected to run a leg on the Patriots' 4 X 100 relay team.
There's no shortage of football prospects to watch today, especially from Curtis, which sends four-star WR Malachi Dupre in the high jump (6-08), long jump (22-03.5) and triple jump (43-03.5). Dupre is seeded first in two events and second in another. He visited UCLA over the weekend and raved about Bruins WRs coach Eric Yarber.
Curtis 2014 RB George Moreira was runner-up in regionals in the 300-meter hurdles to St. Thomas Aquinas' Craig Rock. The pair hold down the top two seeds today, as well.
Texas A&M offered Warren Easton's 2015 trio of Deshawn Capers-Smith (QB/DB), Tyron Johnson (WR) and Arthur McGinnis. Capers-Smith, who is right-handed, goes by the nickname "Lefty." McGinnis didn't play last year due to injury, but has shined all spring at various camps and combines. Johnson has four offers.
West Feliciana brothers Jazz Ferguson and Jay Ferguson are up to 10 offers apiece after Southern Miss, Southern, Houston and Ole Miss offered each this week. Mississippi State, which offered Jay (2014 DE) last month, also offered Jazz (2015 WR) this week. West Feliciana takes on Jewel Sumner in a May 16th spring game.
Western Kentucky offered three-star Hawaii commit Daniel Lewis and East Jefferson RB Ronald Green. TCU and Ole Miss stopped by New Iberia to visit with Lewis this week. Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers were first to offer Green, a top sleeper who ran for 1,000-plus yards last fall.
Memphis was first to offer all-state 2014 DB Santos Ramirez (Captain Shreve), who visited Mississippi State for the Bulldogs' spring game last month. Ramirez has nice size at 6-2, 180 to 185 lbs.
Southern Miss was at Comeaux recently to inquire about 2015 S/WR Hunter Register, a 6-4, 180-pound two-sport (hoops) star.
