Fairchild Camps With 'Canes

Marquis Fairchild, now at Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, just camp with the Hurricanes. He played last season at Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast.

A defensive end flying a little under the radar from south Florida is Marquis Fairchild. Last season he played at Oakland Park Northeast. Now he's at Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna.

"The transition has been great," Fairchild said. "I left at the end of the third quarter. It's been wonderful out here."

Fairchild, 6-foot-3 and 235-pounds, had a good spring with his new team.

"It went well for me," Fairchild said. "I improved on attacking the football. I have long arms and a great reach and can rush the passer. I have good speed on the edge. I just need to work on getting off blocks and locating the ball. That's what I was trying to get better at."

Fairchild doesn't have any scholarship offers at this time. He just camped at the University of Miami.

"I thought it went well for me," Fairchild said. "I learned a lot. We did drills working on speed and quickness. The coaches there said I did a good job.

"I am talking with my dad about going to the Florida camp."

Fairchild says there are quite a few schools showing interest in him.

"I am open and want to wait and see what happens. Miami, Florida, South Alabama, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Marshall are some of the school recruiting me. There are more but I can't remember them all."
