Hill plans on a show

He may be the most anticipated point guard to step on campus at Florida. Kasey Hill reports to campus on Tuesday and it seems every month his role gets a little bigger for his freshman season. The personable Hill has all the skills you would like in a point guard and just enough humility to know that he has to get better at some things.

June 25 is the day that freshmen athletes arrive on campus and the arrival of Kasey Hill may be the most important in any sport. Florida has lost two guards to graduation, one to transfer and another is on indefinite suspension at the moment. Hill was going to come in and play a huge role anyway, but things just got turned up a bit for his entrance to the roster now. He wouldn't have it any other way.

"I am pretty excited… I can't wait to get up there,." He said. "The opportunity is there. It is exciting. I know I am going to have to work for my position and minutes anyway."

Hill keeps in touch with a couple of guys already on campus. Dillon Graham and Damontre Harris have provided him with some insight in what to expect after he arrives.

"I am just ready to get up there and work out and get to know the guys a little better," he said. "I keep up with Dillon Graham and Damontre most of the time.

"They just tell me that it is hard work. You have to work hard and push each other. I am used to working hard. It will be a little different, but I am used to having discipline in my life and I just think going up there and getting adjusted will be fun."

Watching Hill play is almost absurd at times. he has the best handle in the 2013 class and the way he helps others finish at the rim is about incomparable as well. Still, he knows he has some things to work on.

"My main goal for myself s to become a better player overall and be a better point guard," he said. "I want to be the best I can under Coach Donovan and especially improve my jump shooting. At the next level you have to have a jump shot, you can't drive all the time."

The coaching staff at Florida believes he is a great fit for what they do, especially his expertise.

"I am pretty good at the pick and roll," he said. "I think Coach Donovan really likes that about to me. It is one of the main things we talk about."

And being able to throw up the ball to all the inside players that Florida will bring to the table in 2013-14 is something he also salivates over. The aforementioned Harris, Dorian Finney-Smith, Patric Young, Chris Walker, and Casey Prather form as good a front line as you will see in college basketball this year.

"I can't wait to play with Montre, Dodo, Patric, Chris, Casey… it will make it a lot easier for me if they are setting screens," he said. "Some can pick and pop and some of them head for lobs at the rim."

In his time preparing for his arrival, Hill has talked most with assistant Matt McCall. The two have grown pretty close.

"I have mostly been in contact with Coach Matt McCall since I signed," he said. "We always talk on the regular pretty much. We talked about the playoffs, Lebron, free agency, just always talking and as much as I can."

Hill says he plans on rooming with Graham, Walker (when he arrives), and someone else. He believes this version of the basketball team can go a long way.

"I think we can be as good as we want to be," he said. "Everyone has to be on the right track. Everyone has to have one goal and go from there. As long as we work hard and listen to Coach Donovan, we can be as good as anyone."

As for himself, he plans on keeping it live in Gainesville and when they are on the road.

"I am just going to be the point guard and try and put on a show," he said. "I will play my hardest and give them a great time watching me and the team."
