The Opening: Gator Offensive Targets

With the premiere collection of prospective college athletes about to take place in Oregon, The Opening will be covered like a blanket by the / FOXSportsNEXT recruiting team. With that I mind, here is a list of the offensive stars that are being recruited by the University of Florida and will participate in the events this week.

In year three of the event, the NIKE organizers have decided to combine the Elite 11 quarterback finals with The Opening and that means Florida commitment Will Grier will be involved. The Davidson (NC) signal caller is currently the third ranked signal caller in the land by and is looking to make a move up this week with a good showing.

Florida has a commitment from a running back and Miami Central star Dalvin Cook will be showcasing his athletic ability to the world on the big stage with his attendance. The former Clemson commit has been strong in his pledge to Florida and has continued to recruit heavily for the Gators.

Cook's teammate on the Land Shark's roster is another big time running back in 5-star Oxford (AL) speedster Racean Thomas who has enough interest in Florida that he visited the Gators this month.

Winding out the running backs that Florida is pursuing heavily that will be showcased is Imperial (CA) all-around back Royce Freeman. Freeman has still left to take a trip to Florida but wants to.

Florida wants at least three receivers in the 2014 class and they are after a bunch of national rated prospects. One of the very best is number seven ranked nationally Ermon Lane of Homestead. Lane lists Florida among his top schools, but is believed to currently favor Alabama.

South Florida is prominent on the Florida recruiting board at receiver and Ft Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Corey Holmes is another the Gators are in pursuit of. Four visits to Notre Dame have the Fighting Irish believed to be the leader for Holmes.

Continuing in South Florida, Travis Rudolph of West palm beach Cardinal newman was thought to be favoring Florida just a few weeks ago. Now it seems that Florida State has made a move for Rudolph. Either way, the gators will continue to recruit him.

The last South Florida receiver prospects Palm beach gardens Dwyer is home to one of the best in Johnny Dixon. Dixon seems to be looking elsewhere at this time, but remains a prospect on Florida's board.

There are still two more in-state receivers participating in The Opening that are also prospects on the Florida board. Artavis Scott of Tarpon Springs East Lake will actually be announcing his school of choice. His recruitment has kind of been up in the air, but most believe Clemson is the team right now. We will fins out this week.

Scott's teammate George Campbell is one of a few 2015 prospects invited. At 6-5 and 181 pounds Campbell will be one of the highest rated receivers in the country for the 2015 class.

Heading out of state, Devante Noil of New Orleans (LA) Edna Karr has a nickname of "speedy". He lists Florida high on his list of schools, but LSU is definitely the team to beat for Noil.

Lastly, former Florida resident Austin Roberts now resides in Carmel (IN). An early contributor at Tampa Plant as a sophomore, Roberts brings good size at 6-2 and already 196 pounds and will play as a tight end in Oregon. The Gators are recruiting him at receiver.

Only two offensive linemen are on Florida's board and the roster at The Opening. The big time in-state prospect is Isaiah Wynn of St. Petersburg Lakewood. The former teammate of current Gator Dante Fowler has been coming around to Florida a little bit lately and the Gators would love to have him.

The last offensive prospect the Gators are after in a big way is offensive lineman Damien Mama. The Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco monster lineman would be a big time get for Florida, but seems a longshot at this time.
