Two Gators named to Paul Hornung Watch List

Trey Burton and Loucheiz Purifoy were two of 44 players named to the 2013 watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, given to the most versatile college football player.

The two players show their versatility in different ways for the Gators. Trey Burton's comes through multiple roles on the Florida offense. He serves as the wildcat quarterback while also taking reps at wide receiver, tight end and even fullback at times.

Burton went 3-for-4 through the air for four yards, adding 190 rushing yards for two touchdowns and 172 receiving yards for one touchdown.

Purifoy does it on different sides of the ball. The junior came to Gainesville as only a cornerback, but he created a niche on offense at the end of his sophomore year. The Florida staff spent the spring toying with different ways to get him more involved.

His role is expected to expand during his junior year, and Purifoy will see time at kick returner, cornerback and wide receiver. He made an impact in 2012 by being fourth on the team in tackles with five pass breakups and a team-high three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.

"The Paul Hornung Award Watch List for the upcoming season is an impressive group of players who excel at multiple positions to help their teams win, which is how I played the game," Hornung said. "It will be interesting to see which players excel during the season and emerge as the top choices of our selection committee."

"We have had the opportunity to welcome great young men to Louisville as winners of the Paul Hornung Award in years past, and I believe we are in line to welcome another great player to our community in 2014," Hornung continued. "I look forward to honoring the winner here in Louisville at one of the best banquets the country has to offer for college football players and their families."
