Three Gators named to award watch lists

The preseason national award watch lists have started to roll out, and three Florida players were placed on lists that were announced Monday morning. Quarterback Jeff Driskel was named to the Maxwell Award watch list, while defensive lineman Dominique Easley and defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy were named to the Bednarik Award watch list.

Jeff Driskel enters his second season as the starting quarterback at Florida. The junior made the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given to the college football player of the year. He threw for 1,646 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions last year, adding 413 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Dominique Easley will be a key piece of the Florida defensive line. After playing defensive end last season, he's expected to slide inside to defensive tackle. He has played in 29 games with 23 starts in his career, totaling 67 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in his three years.

Loucheiz Purifoy heads into his junior season with 12 career starts at cornerback and one start at wide receiver. He is the team's leading returning tackler with 51 last season, adding three forced fumbles and five pass breakups.

Semifinalists for both awards will be announced on October 29, and the three finalists for each award will be released on November 25. The winners will be announced at the annual Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12.
