Louisiana 2015 DT wins FNL Grind MVP

The Florida Gators offer up awards at the conclusion of their camps and the guy that went the hardest and the longest among defensive lineman was Daniel James of McKinley HS (Baton Rouge, La.). The 6-1, 250 pound defensive tackle is just a class of 2015 prospect, but evidently made an impression on the coaching staff.

He rode a long way Friday to get to the camp and he was turning right around afterward to head home. But, Daniel James will head home with a prize and the assurance that another major college program will be following his progress as a possible scholarship athlete.

"They gave me the Grind MVP for the Friday Night Lights Camp," james said proudly just afterward and right outside the stadium.

He enjoyed the short visit a great deal and says he will take home something new to work on.

"I thought it was a great experience," he said. "It is the only camp at night. I learned a move I didn't know."

James elaborated on the move

"It's called the ‘Rip, Shove, and Swim'," he said. "You use the rip any time, then you shove, and when they try and lean on you, you swim over the top.

James seemed impressed with teaching from Florida's new assistant coach in the defensive trenches, Brad Lawing. "Lawing is a great coach and very intense," he said. "He gets his point across."

He's still two years away from graduating high school, but feels one school is close to offering him and now a couple of more are going to watch him intently.

"I have Arkansas looking at me so they are very strong and I also have Cal looking hard at me," he said. "Arkansas says I just need to have a few good games to start the season now and they will offer me. Florida said they will be watching me as well."

And he will likely pay attention to the gators given his thoughts on the short time he spent on campus.

"I really liked the camp, the coaches, and the atmosphere," he said. "I liked everything."
