West: Preseason Top Ten Outside Linebackers

Gardena (Calif.) Serra's Dwight Williams tops the preseason outside linebackers list out West...

West: Preseason Top Ten Outside Linebackers
Location: Gardena, Calif.
High School: Serra
Size: 6-1/212
Previous Ranking: 1
Recruiting: Williams still has a list of 15-16 schools but could cut his list shortly. Michigan and Florida will get official visits and Arizona State, California, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and Washington are under consideration.
The Skinny: The West's top outside linebacker has been a mainstay for the Cavs, and helped lead them to the CIF State D-II title.  Williams has twice been the linebacker MVP at the Los Angeles NFTC, had a strong showing at The Opening last summer. Williams is very good in run support and has taken his game to another level in pass coverage, looking fluid and moving well laterally. He plays with an edge, is a big hitter and is the type of 'backer that will never have to leave the field.
Location: El Cerrito, Calif.
High School: El Cerrito
Size: 6-1, 205
Previous Ranking: 2
Recruiting: Calhoun committed at The Opening to USC in a head to head to battle with UCLA.
The Skinny: Calhoun is one of the most physical hitters you'll see at the position in the region.  Could drop back and play safety or be a mini-backer, but is great in run support and dropping into coverage.  Pound-for-pound, may be the best linebacker in the region and is definitely the toughest.
Location: Portland, Ore.
High School: Jesuit
Size: 6-3/210
Previous Ranking: 5
Recruiting: Alfieri committed to Stanford over a final four that also included Oregon, Oregon State and Washington.
The Skinny: Oregon's top prospect, Alfieri had a huge summer and could have more upside than any other 'backer in this region. He has a great frame, elite athleticism and a hight football IQ. He plays with an incredibly high understanding of the game and is always around the football. He's tough, physical and his performance at the NIKE Camp in Oakland was labeled the best by any 'backer in the country this year by the NIKE staff.
Location: Santa Ana, Calif.
High School: Foothill
Size: 6-3/205
Previous Ranking: NR
Recruiting: Committed to Stanford on the same day as Alfieri after also considering Oregon and USC.
The Skinny: Okereke is a late bloomer and just started playing football two years ago. He's a very quick study and has the look of a star at the next level. He's explosive, a natural pass rusher and relentless in pursuit. He has violent hands and tosses blockers aside with ease and is equally strong playing the run, rushing the passer or dropping in to coverage. He has a non-stop motor, a great worth ethic off the field and should be a major impact player at the next level.
Location: Los Angeles, Calif.
High School: Salesian
Size: 6-2/210
Previous Ranking: 3
Recruiting: Ware committed to Arizona but will still visit Oklahoma during the season.
The Skinny: Ware could play a myriad of positions in college, inside or outside linebacker, grow into a defensive end or even play tight end.  One of the most versatile players in the region, Ware oozes upside.  He's a good athlete with good speed and his best football is still ahead of him. He missed all of the spring and summer and that hurt his stock somewhat but when healthy, there is no doubt Ware is one of the elite prospects in the region.
The Next Five:
6. Fred Warner, Mission Hills (Calif.) San Marcos- Committed to BYU
7. Koa Farmer, Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame- Committed to California
8. Curtis Bolton, Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta- Committed to Oklahoma
9. Greg Hoyd, Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta- Committed to Washington State
10. Ismael Murphy-Richardson, Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge
