Simmons having big year

'15 running back T.J. Simmons is having a big junior season. Simmons, from Lakeland (Fla.) Christian, had an ACL injury as a sophomore.

T.J. Simmons is four-star running back prospect in the 2015 class Lakeland (Fla.) Christian. Simmons, 5-foot-11, 186-pounds, already holds some major scholarship offers and is having a nice junior campaign.

"He's been phenomenal," Wayne Peace said, Lakeland Christian's coach. "He's been so good especially considering he's coming off that knee injury. I wouldn't say that he's 100%. But he's getting there and coming close to really turning it loose. T.J. is just the real deal."

On his fourth carry of his very first game as a sophomore Simmons sustained a torn ACL. But he has battled back. In six games this season Simmons has rushed for over 900-yards.

"T.J. is having a big year for us," Peace said. "It excited me as a coach what he will really be like next season when he's a senior."

It's been pretty quiet on the recruiting front for Simmons of late. He got early offers this summer and fall from schools like Florida, Ohio State, Miami, Louisville, USF, UCF, and Wake Forest. Last weekend he travelled to Clemson for the Florida State and to Auburn when they played Ole Miss. He has also been to Gainesville for Gator games.

Jamie has been covering college football recruiting since 1992 and is entering his ninth year with and FOXSportsNext. He's currently a National Recruiting Analyst and Manager for the state of Florida. Jamie is also covering the NFL Draft for the network.
