"It was tough, sad," Sharpe said shortly after the game. "It was my last game as a senior playing football. It ended early and in the first round, I just have to suck it up and move on."
Moving on he is and after talking about making a public decision in the next 2-3 weeks,. Sharpe has instead moved up his announcement to this Thursday where he will do it at his school.
As of now, Sharpe has taken only one official visit and that was to Knoxville, Tennessee, home of the Volunteers. The Volunteers and Florida are the two programs that seem to be keeping up the most with Sharpe, North Carolina is right there behind them.
"Just Florida and Tennessee," he said of the schools he has the most communication with. "I talked to Tennessee today. Coach Mahoney came today. That is pretty much it. I haven't heard from Georgia. I also hear from North Carolina."
Florida State is a team that has been viewed lately as a team that could land Sharpe, but he says they kind of ruined their chances when they wouldn't communicate with him for a couple of weeks. The constant rumors of him supposedly visiting Tallahassee are wrong he says.
"I don't know why they keep saying I am going to be up there," Sharpe said of the rumors. "I haven't talked to Florida State about it at all. I have been trying to talk to them for the last two weeks and they wouldn't answer at all. Now they want to call and blow it up and I haven't talked to them."
He would like to visit Florida in a couple of weeks when they host the Seminoles, but it appears something stands in the way of that happening. Sharpe is a primo basketball player as well and nationally ranked Monte Verde Academy is on the docket that weekend for his Providence team.
"I am trying to get to that Florida-Florida State game, I will let you know… I am not sure," he said of the official visit he wants to take. "We have a big basketball game that week. We play against Monte Verde and the coaches are killing me about it."
The Gators like what they see in Sharpe.
"They like my ability to work in open space," he said. "They like my pass blocking. They say I have a mean streak and like my technique and ability to bend, my flexibility and my footwork… When we step on that field, I am ready."
With Florida mired in a five game losing streak, the aura around the program hasn't been the best. That hasn't put a dent at all in the way Sharpe views the program he grew up cheering for.
"It doesn't scare me, it doesn't change my perspective with them losing," he said. "I see an opportunity.
"They told me I have a big opportunity to come in and play early. They need me there. They said they would love having me as a part of their program. I have seen that the injuries are a big factor in their offense. As an offense they haven't been able to push or move the ball so I think they do need help."
Sharpe's decision may have been moved up because of the sudden exit in the state playoffs. This is one big announcement coming Thursday and Scout.com will be there to cover it.
