Hargreaves the Defensive Freshman of the Year

The accolades continue to pour in for Florida freshman Vernon Hargreaves. The cornerback was named Defensive Freshman of the Year by College Football News on Friday. Hargreaves was also named to the All-Freshman First Team. Defensive end Dante Fowler was named to the All-Sophomore Second Team and Kelvin Taylor was an honorable mention on the All-Freshman Team.

Vernon Hargreaves wasted no time making an impact this season. He recorded all three of his interceptions in Florida's first four games of the season before opponents started to throw away from him. He switched to No. 1 on his jersey after playing just one game for the Gators.

Hargreaves was named to the First Team All-SEC defense by the Associated Press and the SEC Coaches earlier this week. He was the only freshman named to the first team on either side of the ball by the coaches or the AP. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team.

The freshman finished his season with 38 tackles, three interceptions and 11 passes broke up, matching the high by a Florida freshman since Janoris Jenkins did the same in 2008.

Dante Fowler was one of five Florida players to start every game. He finished fifth on the team with 50 tackles, leading the team with 10.5 tackles for a loss. He also forced three fumbles and recovered one.

Kelvin Taylor played in 10 games and started four of them. He was second on the team with 508 rushing yards on 111 carries. He added five catches for 37 yards and tied for second on the team with four touchdowns, finishing fourth on the roster in total offense.
