Hargreaves named third team All-American

Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves was named a third team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Vernon Hargreaves was one of four freshmen to make any of the teams. Two of the freshmen – Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and kicker Robert Aguayo – are redshirt freshmen. The only other true freshman on the team was third team punter from Austin Rehkow (Idaho).

It's only the latest in a long list of awards Hargreaves has received but likely the most prestigious. The Florida freshman was named first team All-SEC by the AP and the league's coaches, Freshman All-American by the Sporting News and the nation's top freshman defender by CollegeFootballNews.com.

Hargreaves ended his freshman year with three interceptions, all of which came in the first four games. He also broke up 11 passes, tying the school record for a freshman set by Janoris Jenkins in 2008.
