Collegiate Baseball ranks Florida at No. 16

Florida will open the 2014 season as the No. 16 team in the country, according to the Collegiate Baseball poll released on Friday.

This will be the sixth-straight season that Florida will open the season as a ranked team with four of those six coming in the top 16 of the poll.

Cal State Fullerton will open the year as the No. 1 team followed by Southeastern Conference teams Mississippi State and LSU at second and third, respectively. Other SEC teams in the poll include Vanderbilt at 9, South Carolina at 14, Texas A&M at 25, Alabama at 29 and Ole Miss at 30.

Florida's instate rivals in the poll were Florida State at No. 5 and Miami at No. 13. Florida will play a total 21 of its 56 games in 2014 against teams that are ranked in the preseason poll.

The Gators return 18 letter winners from last year's NCAA Tournament team combined with the nation's top class of freshmen. The 100th season of Florida baseball begins on February 14 as the Gators host Maryland.
