Three names for offensive line coach

As we sit four weeks removed from the last game of the season and the release of Florida's offensive line coach in 2013, three names appear to be at the top of the board to replace Tim Davis. We have heard about two of them for a while now and a third makes just as much sense.

The name at the top of the board seems to be Texas offensive line coach Stacy Searels who also has the title of assistant head coach. Searels and Florida head coach Will Muschamp coached together at LSU in 2003 and 2004 and is widely thought of as one of the best offensive line technicians in the game. Along with LSU, he also had an extended stint at Georgia so he is quite familiar with the SEC.

Searels is making a hefty $451,000 at Texas, but the staff is in limbo after the resignation of head coach Mack Brown last week. He doesn't seem to have a working history with anyone on the offensive staff.

Prospect number two comes from Western Kentucky where Neil Callaway landed in 2013 to be the offensive line coach for Bobby Petrino. Callaway has 22 years of coaching experience in the SEC on the offensive line at Auburn (12), Alabama (4), and Georgia (6). He also spent five years as the head coach at UAB.

Callaway is intriguing with his 10 years of experience as an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator in the SEC. Having another coordinator in the staff room is likely not a bad thing. Callaway is currently making $90,000 at Western Kentucky.

Both Searels and Callaway were known to be on the short list for the job two years ago when Tim Davis was hired.

The new name on our board is ousted USC offensive line coach Mike Summers. USC head coach Steve Sarkisian did not retain Summers on the staff. Summers coached the three previous years with Florida receiver coach Joker Phillips while Phillips was the head coach at Kentucky. Before that he spent time with Bobby Petrino at Louisville, the Atlanta Falcons, and Arkansas. He does not have a listed salary at USC.

Stay tuned as we keep you posted on the current staff position opening at Florida.
