4-Star linebacker recaps Florida visit

In the midst of finishing up the 2014 recruiting class, Florida hosted a trio of junior prospects this weekend as well. In town to watch the #6 basketball team dismantle Tennessee, Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County linebacker Roquan Smith dropped in for the day on Saturday and left with a good feeling about the Gators.

Roquan Smith is listed as the 5th best middle linebacker in the 2015 class on Scout.com and the 6-foot-1, 207 pounder is a hard hitting machine in the mold of what Florida is looking for at linebacker. Smith came into Gainesville and quickly got to know Florida head coach Will Muschamp, defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, director of football operations George Wynn, and new player personnel department manager Drew Hughes.

"I got to meet up with Coach Muschamp, Coach Durkin, Coach Wynn, and Coach Drew," Smith said in a conversation Sunday afternoon. "Coach Durkin said I fit his defense perfect and that he would love for me to be a Gator."

The head coach made it clear as to what would be in store for Smith if he decided to be a Gator.

"Coach Muschamp said he doesn't promise anyone playing time, but he promises an opportunity to play here," Smith said. "I know he is a defensive minded coach and that is what he loves. He said I have the skill set to play there."

Smith spent time in the film room with Durkin and they explained to him the intricacies of playing the WILL linebacker position at Florida which is much like playing the MIKE.

"Coach Durkin said he likes me as a WILL linebacker," he said. "We broke down film for a little while. They were showing me exactly what I would be doing as a WILL linebacker. It is easy to be a very productive as the WILL backer."

Smith said he had a very good experience overall while at Florida.

"It is a great place," he said. "The coaches were so welcoming. I talked with some of the players and they have great people down in Gainesville."

No clues as to where he is leaning, if he is leaning anywhere. He does know he will be visiting the SEC Champions next weekend.

"I'm still wide open right now," he said. "I am talking to everybody. I am going to Auburn on the 1st of February."
