"They like my height and the weight I am at," Loftus said of college coaches when they talk to him. "I am 290, but I am slim. They like that I am thin at the ankles." Loftus is also gathering praise for the mental part of his game.
"I am just being smart," he said. "My offensive line coach, Cleon McFarlane, talks about my football IQ."
"Honestly I've watched Luke Joeckel highlights like ten times," Loftus said. "There is a reason he went number one in the draft. He is so explosive and I like how much he plays like he loves the game. I am working on my explosion this year. We are working on our conditioning and stuff like that."
Loftus visited Florida for Junior Day on February 1, and came away impressed with the Gainesville campus and the program.
"I liked it a lot," he said of the visit "It was a nice campus. They brought in a whole new coaching staff. When they were talking to us they just had a plan for the upcoming years and they seemed very confident in their plan. I really liked that.
Mike Summers is the offensive line coach at Florid and also recruits the panhandle and big bend area of the state. Loftus has talked to him a bit and will continue to see and hear from the new assistant. Summers is looking hard at Loftus, but wants to see a little more.
"I talked to Coach Summers and he is our recruiting our area now," Loftus said. "He said he wanted to see more film because I was injured last year and missed a couple of games. He said he will come down in the spring and watch."
Loftus has grown up a fan of the local Seminoles at Florida State. He will definitely listen to the home town team, but he understands he has to make a final decision based on who he rooted for growing up.
"I grew up a Florida State fan," he said. "You can't just go with your favorite team though. You have to look into how many people they signed and have offered this year."
And with that, Loftus says he doesn't want to wait on a making a college choice too long.
"I kind of want to make a decision before our football season, but I don't have a set time," he said.
