Simmons waiting on a season at full speed

Coming back from injury often times it takes a lot out of you until fully recovered. Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside running back Octavious Simmons is a junior in high school and missed his sophomore season because of a knee injury. As a junior, he was more tentative to begin the year than he wanted to be, but progressed with the season went. Now, he's ready for a healthy and big year.

So far Octavious Simmons is hearing from the likes of Liberty, Bethune Cookman, FAU, and North Carolina A&T and his first college offer could be coming real soon. There seems little doubt that once word gets out, Simmons will start adding up offers left and right.

"They tell me they are impressed with my film and will be in contact," he said of college coaches that come by the school.

An injury sidelined him for almost his entire 2012 season and a slow recovery saw him struggle a little last year. Now, the worry is over, he is running faster, and he expects a huge 2014 season.

"I am a running back," he said when asked what position he sees himself in college. "Normally you have a speedster or someone who is physical, I believe I have both. I have great vision and phenomenal footwork. I came in my ninth grade year running a 4.4, and missed my tenth grade year with injury, then came back running a 4.6.

At 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, he would like to add five more pounds and wants to run like one of the greats at the University of Florida.

"I liked Percy Harvin," he said. "I think he is great to look up to, because he is real fast and versatile," Simmons said. "He can be a running back or receiver, I just like him."

He did hae two college programs that he has grown to like over the years. He says even with all the stars stacked up in the backfield at Alabama, he could see himself playing there.

"I like Florida and I also like Alabama because of all of their running backs," Simmons said. "All of those stars don't matter. You can be a five-star and I could be 10 times better than you. I am confident in myself to compete there."

The owner of a 3.6 Grade Point Average, Simmons says he would like to major in business in college.

Here is a look at his junior highlight film, which shows great burst, good speed, and the ability to run through tackles.
