Lewis visits and has Gators in top five

The Florida Gators continue to recruit the secondary at a high level and continue to be short in numbers in the defensive backfield. Never is that more front and center this spring where the Gators have a total of none defensive backs for four spots on the field. Washington (DC) Gonzaga 4-star cornerback Marcus Lewis saw it first hand on Friday and talks about his time on campus at Florida.

The sun was out and it was a nice day for practice at Florida on Friday. Marcus Lewis watched on as the Gators went through their second of 15 practices of the spring. After practice he told us he was having a good visit.

"It's been great… I am loving it," he said on his way back to The Swamp from the practice fields. "I love the weather, love the coaches, and love everything I am seeing. It was very fast, up-tempo. They play fast, hard, and physical. I like that."

Lewis has a connection to Florida in freshman corner Jalen Tabor. The two grew up in the same area and the two have gotten to know each other in the last couple of years.

"Jalen is the man," Lewis said. "I love him. We train back home together and he wants me here with him. He told me before practice started that if I came here he would take me under his wing… two guys from the city. I've known him for a couple of years now."

The staff at Florida also is pushing Lewis to be a Gator. Florida head coach Will Muschamp let him know how much he is needed.

"Coach Muschamp told me they are low at the defensive back area, they are low at corners," he said. "They need corners and want me to come in and play corner. He said I am versatile and can play safety or corner."

Florida has been a school he's looked at for a while.

"I just like the tradition," he said. "A lot of people have told me there is nothing like running out in The Swamp. I know Joe Haden he is from my area as well. I just like the tradition and what they are about."

He wants a little bit more time with the Florida staff before he leaves.

"I want to sit down with Coach Muschamp with him and my mom," he said. "I wanted to meet all the coaches. I talked to Coach T-Rob. Me and Coach Muschamp met a couple of hours earlier. He told me I could come in and make an immediate impact. I could be a return man and all. We will have to see how things go."

He isn't ready to make a decision but says that he would make the decision when he thought the time was right. He did say that he knows of three schools that are at the top of his list, including the Gators.

"I am pretty even," he said with any favorites. "I would say all three Florida schools will be in my top five, I like Miami, Florida State and Florida."
