Nation's #3 MLB enjoyed visit to Florida

Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County middle linebacker Roquan Smith is a wanted man and there may not be a team that wants him or needs him more than the Florida Gators. Therefore, it is important to get Smith on campus at Florid and let him know just how important he is and more importantly, make sure he likes what he sees. That appears to be what happened over the weekend.

Florida is in the middle of spring practice and has had a bevy of big time athletes come through Gainesville to watch practice. On Saturday Roquan Smith was one of them and liked what he saw.

"I enjoyed it," Smith told "Just being with the coaches and hanging with them."

Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the scrimmage that was scheduled was all but cancelled and so Smith didn't get to see the team and coaches in action.

Instead he and fellow Georgian and 4-star linebacker Adonis Thomas got more of the red carpet treatment while on campus. Smith and Thomas are ‘tight' according to Smith.

"It is a great school, a great opportunity and a great defense," Smith said. Me and Adonis can do big things there together.

It wasn't the first trip to Florida and it won't be his last.

"I will visit again soon, but not sure when yet," he said.

Florida has just five healthy linebackers for spring drills, two of which are seniors. They also didn't sign any in the class of 2014. Signing a number of linebackers is a necessity for the Gators and Roquan Smith is at the top of the list.
