Simmons took in Gainesville again

Tallahassee Godby is a powerhouse in the high school football ranks these days and quite a few high division one athletes are graduating and moving on to the collegiate level from the school. One for next year is P.J. Simmons, a slot receiver / running back that is picking up a lot of attention these days. Simmons spent Saturday afternoon in The Swamp with teammates watching Florida scrimmage.

We caught up with P.J. Simmons before the game and he told us what he wanted to see on his trip to Gainesville.

"I just want to experience the atmosphere and see what it is like on game days, see if I like it and get used to it," he said. "I want to see if the guys compete hard, see what the coaches teach them and how they play."

The Gators had one of the more memorable spring games in a while scoring 46 points total on a fast paced clock and short quarters. They showed a new offense that fits the style of game that Simmons possesses. The Florida staff knows what he is like and is watching him closely.

"They tell me they like me on the offensive side of the ball and that I look good with the ball in my hands," Simmons said. "And… that I fit good in the spread offense they are bringing back. I can play running back or slot receiver."

Florida offensive line coach Mike Summers recruits the Tallahassee area and is starting to build a nice reputation among the locals there like Simmons.

"Coach Summers is a good guy, down to earth," Simmons said. "He's real calm and collected and cool."

The trip to Gainesville will be it for a while as far as visits for Simmons who says once home from Gainesville it is time to prepare for spring football. We will continue to monitor the recruitment of P.J. Simmons.
