Loftus eyeballs the Gators

Massive offensive lineman Brendan Loftus visited Florida on Saturday for the Orange and Blue Debut. The Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby tackle came to Florida in January for a Junior Day and we caught up with him before the scrimmage on Saturday to find out what he is thinking about the Gators.

The Florida offense showed up pretty strong on Saturday and with a quick clock and short quarters, the Gators put up 46 points on the board. Offensive line coach Mike Summers arrived on campus in January and Brendan Loftus was interested to see what he and his guys might accomplish during the scrimmage.

"I am just looking to see the whole new coaching staff and Coach Summers," he said beforehand. "I want to see what he has done to the team and how it has built up from last year."

Florida has stepped up the recruitment of Loftus in recent weeks and it helps that Summers is the primary recruiter for the Tallahassee area. The Gators seem to be on the verge of offering Loftus, but due to him missing a lot of games as a junior, they want to see him live again and see what he can do.

"They like me on film, they like how I am physical and my size," Loftus said. "I didn't get to play a lot last year because I was injured and they are ready to see me this spring.

"They are sending me a lot of mail, a lot of hand-written and email. I have been talking to the Florida coaches on Twitter and Facebook a lot."

Saturday was the first time Loftus saw the Florida offense live, but back in January he got to see it on film and liked what he saw.

"Coach Summers brought me into his office on the Junior Day and showed me what the offense is like and I like it a lot," he said. "It is very physical and they like to run a lot.

Loftus says he has 9-10 offers now and Syracuse was the latest to pull the trigger last week. He is waiting on that Gator offer, which he thinks will come soon.

"Hopefully, I think this spring when they see me in spring practice they will offer," he said.
