Could McGee be an option for Florida?

The Florida Gators could be on the verge of landing a big time transfer that would be eligible to play right away. An offense in need of play makers and certainly one at the tight end position,Virginia transfer Jake McGee would be a big time get for Florida.

Jake McGee led the Virginia Cavaliers in receiving a year ago in both catches with 43 and receiving yards with 395. He caught at least one pass in all 11 games in which he appeared and led UVa with 26 "Money Receptions"... 26 of his 43 receptions (60.5 percent) went for a first down or a touchdown, or both. Fourteen of his "Money Receptions" came on third down, including both of his touchdown catches. In a release on Friday McGee said he loved his time at Virginia but is looking for a new home.

"I am very thankful for my time at UVA and I will always consider myself a Wahoo," he said. "I have tremendous respect for Coach London and this football team, but I have decided to pursue my future career elsewhere. This is a personal decision and in no way should reflect on this team or it's coaches. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and especially the Wahoo fans for the endless support. Go Hoos."

The Gators are looking for a shot in the arm on offense. And couldn't replace the loss of NFL star tight end Jordan Reed in 2013 after the 2012 season when he left early for the professional ranks.

Insert McGee, a seasoned veteran and pass catcher who can also play on the line of scrimmage. He would provide instant experience in the passing game that the Gators just do not have. Florida tight ends totaled four catches for 42 yards a year ago.

No word yet on a final decision for McGee, but it does appear that Florida is firmly in the mix. Stay tuned as we follow the movement for this prime time player.
