Florida in top 5 for Keke?

One of the better names in all of college football recruiting is that of 4-star Richmond (Tex.) George Ranch DT Kingsley Keke. The fact that he is a super talent on the football field is a bonus with Keke and a bonus the Florida Gators are trying to get in on. Keke joined us for a few minutes to talk to us about the process and his thoughts on Florida.

With his spring game in just about three weeks, defensive tackle Kingsley Keke has been waiting to get the pads on and start preparing for his senior season.

"I have been anticipating getting out there and getting things going and get in pads," Keke said by phone this weekend.

At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Keke is a prospect that can push the pocket from the inside or hold his own on the outside. He takes pride in doing his job, whatever that may entail. As a junior, he primarily played on the outside as a big defensive end and this season his coach is asking him to be a 3-trchnique tackle.

"I like to explode from the (3-technique) or the end," he said. "As a (3-technique) I explode more and as an end I have to read first and see if I need to contain or spill. I have quick hands and I explode them. I just do my job and try and be aggressive."

The Gators like big linemen up front and believe he can also play both positions.

"Florida thinks I can play at the 3-technique or end or a 4-technique which would be like both," he said. "That would be nice. It doesn't matter to me, I like both."

Assistant Derek Lewis is recruiting Keke for the Gators and the big lineman is fond of the Gator assistant. Lewis has worked on Keke enough for the Texan to state that the Gators are near the top of his list of schools.

"Coach Lewis is cool, I like him a lot," Keke said. "He reminds me that they are defensive minded and have a top three defense. The head coach, Coach Muschamp, is a defensive guy so I like that a lot. Right now I think Florida would be in my top five."

Keke says he will likely see Gainesville sometime between June and August.

"Coach Lewis is trying to get me over there for a visit," he said. "I will probably visit sometime in the summer."

In the meantime, Keke is starting to figure out what he will look for in a school. The number one thing is what he position coach at the school has done in terms of preparing players for the NFL. That seems to be a strong suit for Florida defensive line coach Brad Lawing.

"It will be about my relationship with the coach," he said. "I will have to look to see what he has done in the past with other defensive linemen. Coach Lewis talks to me about Coach Lawing quite a bit, so I know what he has done with guys he has coached.
