McGee will transfer to Florida

Since Jordan Reed decided to leave Florida following the 2012 season, the tight end position hasn't been production for the Gators. They finally have a player that can change that. Florida has landed Virginia transfer Jake McGee, who is a post-grad transfer that has one year of eligibility remaining.

Per Florida, McGee will start classes at Florida on Monday.

Jake McGee led the Cavaliers with 43 catches for 395 yards while adding two touchdowns. He averaged 9.2 yards per catch, third highest on the Virginia roster among player with more than eight catches. The 6-6, 250-pounder was listed as a tight end/wide receiver on the Virginia roster and can make an impact for Florida this fall.

McGee was named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's top tight end.

The Gators pieced together the tight end position next season with Clay Burton and Tevin Westbrook. Freshman DeAndre Goolsby showed potential during the spring but isn't ready to contribute this fall.
