Egbunu transferring to Florida

The Gators are set to add a boost to their frontcourt. Former South Florida big man John Egbunu will transfer to Florida and be eligible to play during the 2015-16 season.

John Egbunu decided to transfer to Florida over Georgetown, Michigan State and Virginia Tech.

The 6-10 center started 31 games at USF last season as a freshman. He averaged 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds, leading the team with 43 blocked shots. His 43 blocked shots would've been the most on the Florida roster. Egbunu blocked 43 in 793 minutes, and Patric Young, who led Florida with 41 blocked shots, did it in 1,025 minutes.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining after he takes a redshirt to sit out during the 2014-15 season. Egbunu decided to transfer from USF when coach Stan Heath was fired.

When Egbunu signs his paper with Florida and is officially on scholarship, the Gators will be one over the limit heading into next season. There's no word on who the odd man out will be.
