Gators up in polls, Gushue honored

The final regular season polls were released on Monday and Florida made a jump in all of them. The Gators clinched the SEC title and won the series at Tennessee over the weekend. Florida catcher Taylor Gushue was honored as SEC Player of the Week.

Florida moved up to No. 10 in the Perfect Game Poll and No. 7 in the Baseball America Poll. The Gators came in at No. 12 in the Coaches' Poll and No. 11 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.

The NCAA also released its official RPI rankings for the final time in the regular season. The Gators came in at No. 2 in the RPI.

Florida catcher Taylor Gushue was named SEC Player of the Week by the league on Monday. It's the first time the junior has earned the award. Gushue hit .615 in four games last week, including a .636 average (7-11) against Tennessee over the weekend.

Gushue had two three-hit games, totaling four RBI, four walks and three doubles. He also ended the season leading the league with a .389 batting average in SEC play. He finished second in league play with a .583 slugging percentage and .449 on-base percentage. Gushue led the Gators with a .335 batting average, six home runs and 46 RBI.

Florida opens play at the SEC Tournament on Wednesday, facing the winner of Tuesday's matchup between Alabama and Kentucky. Wednesday's game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. EST.
