Profile: Sheriron Jones
Location: Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde
Weight: 185 pounds
Recruiting: Jones committed to Florida at the Gators camp on Sunday but actually had given Coach Muschamp a silent commitment a week ago. Jones had done a nice job all spring saying he didn't have a leader and wanted to go through the process but privately, Florida had been team to beat for the last few months. Gator assistants White and Roper did a great job recruiting Jones, he liked the idea of getting away from home and the SEC was also a big deal for him.
What to Like: Jones is a talented dual threat quarterback who can beat you with his arm or his legs. He has solid arm strength, shows nice touch on the deep ball and plus accuracy on all three levels. His mobility in the pocket allows him to extend plays and he doesn't always look to just take off and run at the first sign of pressure, he's able to buy time, keep his eyes downfield and doesn't panic. He's a strong leader, well liked by his teammates and shows a great work ethic off the field as well.
What may be of concern: Jones needs to iron some mechanical issues, namely tightening his release and work on going through his progressions more as well. He can lock in on his primary target at times but he's a smart kid, open to coaching and we don't see this an issue going forward. He plays in an offense that is predominately out of the gun so he'll some time to adjust to taking drops and seeing the field a little differently.
Overall Analysis:Jones is a national prospect and a very nice pickup for the Gators. He's one of the top quarterbacks in the country and we'll have a chance to see him compete on a national stage at the upcoming Elite 11 Finals and The Opening in July. As good he is now, he's not close to reaching his full potential and has another big jump ahead of him. With the signing of Will Grier last year and Jones coming in this cycle, the Gators have some very nice depth at the quarterback position.
