Gardner Talks Florida; FAU Camps
Jacksonville (Fla.) Atlantic Coast High School wide receiver/defensive back David Gardner holds five scholarship offers coming out of last month's spring practice period. The 6-foot-2 and 174-pound rising senior is hoping summer camps produce a couple more opportunities. Earlier this week Gardner attended camp at Florida and early next week he will camp at Florida Atlantic. "I went to Florida on Monday. I talked to Coach Roper (Florida offensive coordinator Kurt Roper) and had a great conversation. I really did turn a lot of head. Coach T-Rob (Florida secondary coach Travaris Robinson) had me play a little defensive back and Coach Muschamp (Florida head coach Will Muschamp) and Coach Roper had me playing receiver. I am very close to getting an offer I think. I have been keeping in touch with Coach Roper lately. I was blessed with the opportunity to learn some things to take back to my high school," said Gardner of camping with the Gators. Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, UAB, Maryland and Florida International have already offered Gardner who is also hearing from Iowa State and Minnesota. "FAU is coming on very, very hard. I will be down there Monday. Hopefully with my performance I will be able to get an offer. They said they are just waiting for me to get on-campus and they will make their decision then. They said I'm very high on their board and I am one of the guys they want," Gardner said of his plans for next week. Gardner also plans on attending camp in Jacksonville at FIU's satellite camp. He will also camp at Maryland during the last weekend in June. The talented two-way player spoke very highly of his relationship with Maryland wide receiver coach Keenan McCardell.
